Today we pick up the garter toss.  In theory this is a bit of bawdy fun where the groom reaches under the bride’s wedding dress, and pulls a special garter off her leg (ooh la la!).  The garter is then thrown, bouquet style to the eager groomsmen.  Problem is, at some weddings, it’s turned into a cringe inducing lap-dance/up-skirt flashing fiasco. At a wedding I attended, prior to the garter removal (teeth, of course)

the groom donned a blindfold, and fondled the legs of female guests to see if he could find the bride!  All in front of Grandma.  That put me off this particular tradition personally but I’m all for grooms who want to have their fun embracing their inner Chippendale.  My advice would be to discuss in advance exactly what you’re comfortable with – good practice for married life!

Often though, when a DJ turns up the Beyonce and puts out the call, eligible gals disappear into the woodwork.  When I was on bridesmaid duty, I always found that was a perfect time to sprinkle rose petals in the bridal suite. Honestly, unmarried women want nothing to do with this archaic tradition.pink bouquet

Fear not, Brides! You can ceremonially dispose of flowers without setting your single friends’ teeth on edge. Try this: instead of throwing your flowers at someone, which is a little hostile when you think about it, GIVE them to a lady (or gentleman – we don’t judge) wish to honor.  Grandma, Man of Honor, childhood best friend, you pick. We at MLFS even make you a “toss” bouquet so you can keep your own gorgeous bouquet for yourself!

I’m betting you have a guest who’d be thrilled with a special posy. And trust me, there are women who will be thrilled with not having their marital status paraded around the dance floor.

•We like the cafe at the Camelot and Rick’s Grill for okay and inexpensive dinner . Just looking for a change tonight.

 

•Rick’s Desert Grill or don’t laugh, either the Fish & Chips or Cobb Salad at Billy Reeds. And my new fave is the sole at Twin Palms. (All in Palm Springs)
