Who Walks The Bride Down The Aisle? You Get To Pick!

Father’s Day brings walking down the aisle to a wedding planner’s mind. But some brides want a non-traditional ceremony entrance. Here are three suggestions for anyone who is looking for aisle traveling companions for their wedding:

  • Your Mom. She’s been there from the very beginning, loves you like crazy, and will be thrilled to be asked.
  • Your 2nd Favorite Man. Ranked just below the ring-bearing hunk, chances are there’s an uncle, cousin or best friend in your life that you’d love to have with you on that special stroll.
  • Your fabulous self! Trust us- you’re going to be radiant, and perfectly capable of coming down that aisle

Wedding Movie Wednesday! Hilarious Comedy: Bridesmaids

Can you talk awesome wedding movies without the brilliant 2011 comedy Bridesmaids coming up? I think not.  Bridesmaids was a triple threat: a chick flick with enough gross out comedy to keep fiancés laughing too, AND it proved to Hollywood that YES women go to the movies and spend as much as 14 year old boys, so make us some stuff with good storylines and characters, OK?  This one’s a surefire hit with the whole wedding party.  It certainly it made the My LittleFlower Shop staff crack up. Enjoy!

YOUR WEDDING AND THE TV- NOT THE BEST MATCH

Do you keep the TV on for “background noise?” Me too. But there’s a danger. I’ll aimlessly tune in while washing dishes, and next thing you know, I’m knee deep in a “Real Housewives of Cleveland” marathon, and poof! 5 hours have gone by. Don’t get me wrong, we all need to escape into a great story once in a while (check out Wedding Movie Wednesday blog posts for non-housewife suggestions) but be careful that your “background”noise doesn’t pulls you away from being more involved in life, liberty and the pursuit of a fabulous wedding.

Be well, and love well.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey - a train wreck I can't take my eyes off, I'm ashamed to admit.

The Devil Is In The Wedding Details

If you read bridal blogs and magazines, there’s a lot of talk of  “details” and “special touches” that brides and wedding planners are using to make 2013 weddings unique to each bridal couple.

Don't let the details get your veil in a twist! It's ok for place cards to be place cards and not art.

Don’t let the details get your veil in a twist! It’s ok for place cards to be place cards and not art.

At the same time, I think the focus on producing creative details can put a lot of pressure on brides especially in this age of Pinterest and so many places to submit beautiful wedding photos for publication. Don’t let the culture of details get into your head- let the unique ideas reveal themselves as you plan. Take a deep breath, and maybe make time online a little less Pinteresting.

Be well, and love well.

POLL! The Garter Toss. Should We Toss It From The Wedding Reception?

Last post we talked about the bouquet. Today we pick up the garter toss.  In theory this is a bit of bawdy fun where the groom reaches under the bride’s wedding dress, and pulls a special garter off her leg (ooh la la!).  The garter is then thrown, bouquet style to the eager groomsmen.  Problem is, at some weddings, it’s turned into a cringe inducing lap-dance/up-skirt flashing fiasco. At a wedding I attended, prior to the garter removal (teeth, of course)

the groom donned a blindfold, and fondled the legs of female guests to see if he could find the bride!  All in front of Grandma.  That put me off this particular tradition personally but I’m all for grooms who want to have their fun embracing their inner Chippendale.  My advice would be to discuss in advance exactly what you’re comfortable with – good practice for married life!

So, what do you think?  To toss, or not to toss?

Wedding Movie Wednesday! 80s Teen Comedy – Sixteen Candles

Feeling irritated by your sisters? Sorority, soul or otherwise? Whether you’re the bride or the maid, a night with this classic 80s John Hughes comedy, will loosen everyone up. Have an 80’s themed sleep-over to screen Sixteen Candles: the perfect presentation of teen angst about boys, turning 16, and being a bridesmaid. And just you try not to melt a little, deep in your 14 year old heart, over Michael Schoeffling. (Good luck with that.)

Tossing the Bouquet Toss – All The Single Ladies Will Thank You.

At wedding’s end, the bride tosses her bouquet to crowd of happy single gals, right? Often though, when a DJ turns up the Beyonce and puts out the call, eligible gals disappear into the woodwork.  When I was on bridesmaid duty, I always found that was a perfect time to sprinkle rose petals in the bridal suite. Honestly, unmarried women want nothing to do with this archaic tradition.pink bouquet

Fear not, Brides! You can ceremonially dispose of flowers without setting your single friends’ teeth on edge. Try this: instead of throwing your flowers at someone, which is a little hostile when you think about it, GIVE them to a lady (or gentleman – we don’t judge) wish to honor.  Grandma, Man of Honor, childhood best friend, you pick. We at MLFS even make you a “toss” bouquet so you can keep your own gorgeous bouquet for yourself!

I’m betting you have a guest who’d be thrilled with a special posy. And trust me, there are women who will be thrilled with not having their marital status paraded around the dance floor.

Be well, and love well.
